During a visit to a Masai village I became friend with the son of the head elder of the village. He was a very young "warrior" with a very different culture, values and traditions, no to mention clothing and style (my is tasteless and plain....simply ugly). Masai are very proud people and find the white man/women (mostly visiting tourists) rather "ugly" (although not in the bad sense of the word) compared to their beautiful dresses, hair, etc.etc.
He was very pleasant and personable. He was very curious about our culture, but always stating that he would be much better of in his village and with his way of life (he is probably right!). They all seemed very content and happy, and specially proud. They have dreams just like we do and they follow rules and traditions. They still have a mantain a style of living identical to their ancestors as it was 400 years ago. The outside pressure and population growth, as well as, government control of their land and regulation of some of their traditions will invariably cause the demise of these great warriors and this unique antique civilization.
